Apple Sauce with Walnuts and Currants + Tribest Personal Blender
December 10, 2008
There is nothing better than spoonful after spoonful of fresh homemade applesauce made from organic apples, and it is so easy to do! It takes no time at all to make this delicious version of an old time classic.
Apples come in many varieties and flavors, don’t hesitate to try them all. If you like your applesauce with more texture, stir in chopped apples, raisins, cranberries, or add some crunch with chopped nuts or seeds.
Apple Sauce with Walnuts and Currants
Double this recipe if you are using a standard size blender or a food processor.
½ tablespoon lemon juice
½ tablespoon lucuma powder
½ teaspoon cinnamon
Pinch of fresh lemon zest
Pinch of fresh nutmeg
Walnuts, chopped
Dried currants
Place all ingredients in the blender, except the walnuts and dried currants, and blend until smooth or to desired consistency.
Garnish with chopped walnuts and dried currants.
Serves 1 -2

I made the applesauce recipe, shown above, with my Tribest PB-200 Personal Blender. It is the newest addition in my group of essential kitchen tools. I discovered this little gem when I interviewed Ani Phyo and asked her What is your favorite kitchen gadget? I visited Tribest’s site, read more about it, and promptly purchased one, and I’m sure glad I did. It is awesome!
This personal blender is perfect for anyone and every kitchen, and it is affordable. What I value most about it is how quick, easy, and convenient it is to use, and the portability factor. Simply put the ingredients into the blending cup and screw on the lid with the blending blade, blend, and serve. Twist on the commuter-sipping lid, and take your healthy creation wherever you go, or place the storage lid on and storage it for later use.
Tribest has created a blender model to suit a range of needs.
The PB-100 is a compact blender set with two large blending cups, one storage lid, and one commuter-sipping lid.
The PB-200 has blender and grinder options, and comes with two large blending cups, two small grinding cups, a blending blade for wet ingredients, a grinding blade for dry ingredients, three storage lids, and one commuter-sipping lid.
The PB-300 is the mason jar personal blender using glass mason jars.
Smoothies and blended drinks are mostly likely the first thing you would think to make with these personal blenders, but there is a wide range of recipe options, like individual serving sizes of soups, puddings, baby food, salsas, sauces, and more!
Again, I have the pleasure of offering another great gift from our friends at Tribest. They are a leading designer of high-quality small kitchen appliances to help promote a healthy lifestyles, and they have kindly offered one Tribest PB-200 Personal Blender to help support your healthy lifestyle! I extend many thanks and much appreciation to the people at Tribest for their sponsorship and generosity. Also, visit Tribest and check out the great holiday gifts packs they offer. They have bundled their most popular items with free gifts.
I appreciate the convenience of using my personal blender when I crave a single serving smoothie or blended drink, and I use it often. A fresh healthy drink is always a good thing.
Are smoothies or blended drinks are part of your daily diet?
Answering the above question enters you in the draw for this excellent gift.
Cheers!

Not this time of year, but once it gets warmer smoothies are an everyday meal/snack. My favorite is with frozen bananas & strawberries, orange juice, and plain yogurt.
Green smoothies are a daily ritual. Even in the frozen north, where I live. I just blend until the smoothie isn’t so chilly any more.
Thanks, Ingrid, for another great article and give-away!
Smoothies are a part of my daily diet for sure, but only when I can borrow a friend’s blender. I’m a California transplant living the frigid Northeast, so I’m grateful for living in Chinatown, the only part of town to get a blended papaya drink no matter the weather outside!
I also use blenders to make: peanut sauce, saffron sauce (for rice), and salad dressings.
They totally should be–I have a blender at the office and a New Year’s resolution to make better use of it!
Smoothies are an absolute everyday must-have! Before, I used to make all kinds of fruit and raw cacao smoothies for myself and got my college roommates hooked. Just recently though, I read about making green smoothies and I can’t imagine mornings without them. :)
I drink green smoothies EVERYDAY! Thanks for this wonderful giveaway. I have been trying to get my 8 yo boy to eat more healthy, and he could almost make his own smoothie in this! Oh, please, please, pick me?
Thanks again!

Smoothies, blended drinks, and blended soups are definitely a huge part of my diet. For breakfast I usually have a green smoothie with chia seeds, goji berries, and maca. I make simple dressings and sauces for my daily salads some days, or just splash some apple cider vinegar and tahini on my leaves. Blended soups are another staple, especially during the colder months it’s nice to have a thick comfort soup!
I start off my day with a smoothie. I mix an avocado, a banana, some raisins, with some nut butter (mostly cashew butter) and flax seeds. This breakfast keeps me going beyond lunch time and keeps my blood sugar levels steady.
Smoothies are definitely a routine part of my diet, however now that it’s been getting colder outside I’ve been leaning towards juices. The Tribest looks awesome and very versatile!
You know, I’ve never thought about having a personal blender, but the more I read about it,the more I think it may be handy to have, especially for making those green smoothies I’m trying to incorporate into my diet.
Blended drinks are something I enjoy on a weekly basis. I particularly love carrot juice mixed with beet juice. Mmmmmm.
Yup, everyday, and especially Wednesdays (it’s Pilates in the evening and I hate to have a bulky belly when I do Pilates, so I have smoothies until after class.)
In the Winter I have more warming smoothies – Gingerbread Smoothie: 1C grapes, 3 Figs Soaked, 1T Almond butter, knob of fresh Ginger, pinch Cloves, Alspice and Cinnamon to taste. Blend, then dilute with water to your desired consistency.
My 4 y.o son likes the occasional ‘Superfood’ Smoothie, he tells, me. Though I doubt he knows what a superfood is… bless!
When I saw the heading for this post, the first thing that came to mind was “Hey, that’s Ani Phyo’s favorite blender!” Isn’t that funny?
Yup, I drink green smoothies every day! I’m also really loving blended soups these days, since we are experiencing Arctic-like temps.
Greetings,
Absolutely, smoothies are a part of my daily diet. Especially for breakfast and oftentimes lunch. I am new to raw food and am amazed at how blending fruits and veggies can be so easy and delightfully healthful. I’ve been reading every book I can get my hands on and relying on your website for assistance in my holistic lifestyle endeavor. I was not aware of this tool which will be perfect for my road trips as I travel for my Pilates business and often find myself without proper nutrition. Wow, thanks so much for sharing this divine find! I appreciate your website! Happy, happy holidays!
Healthy regards.
Yes, yes and yes! Funny: Today I had the deli gal blend my smoothie. Two ginormous organges and an entire bunch of greens. Talk about a tub-o-smoothie waiting for me. It’s huge!
I’m glad to hear the blender is working so well for you. I’d been wondering about the smaller blenders and thought they seemed like a really wise investment. Thanks so much for sharing this. YAY you!!!
Smoothies is one of the first things that I included in my diet when I got into raw, back in 2000. They have come to replace my breakfast and lunch. Something is a bit different this winter, however. While I used to consume fruit or green smoothies daily, since the weather has cooled down, I find that these aren’t agreeing with my body so well. I’ve now switched to almond milk or young coconut based drinks and am loving it! As a bonus, I get lots of pulp which I can then use to make delicious cakes. Yay!
Smoothies are not *yet* part of my daily diet. I need a blender before I can make green smoothies! I would love to have a blender so I can make smoothies and the other raw food deliciousness I find here!
Smoothies are an A-1 part of my diet. My favorites are apple and banana, and peach/spinach/banana. They are incredible.
Smoothies are definately a part of my daily routine – From spring till Fall, I eat green smoothies, and come winter (i live in arctic like temperatures) I opt for something a bit heavier like nut milk based smoothies, adding some fruit, cinnamon or ginger, and superfoods.
Im not sure what I’d do without a daily blended drink!!!
Congratulations to Sarah, she won Tribest PB-200 Personal Blender!!! Thank you all for participating and Happy Holidays!!!
