Spicy Lemon Lime Tonic
March 7, 2009
Today marks day 7, one full week of juice feasting! Everything is going well, so far, so great! I do everything a person would do in the course of a day, with no fatigue or major detox symptoms. Still I know I’m detoxing on some level and as part of the detoxification and internal cleaning process that is taking place, I’ve supplemented my juice feasting with daily work out sessions.
Yoga is a great form of exercise to help eliminate toxins from the body. The past few days I’ve reacquainted myself with power yoga, which is said to be particularly effective for detoxing, and yesterday I bent the rules and busted out my Tae-Bo DVD. Please note it is not recommended to do strenuous exercises while fasting so do be cautious, do your research, listen to what your body is telling you as far as its limits, and whether you are fasting, feasting, or not, stay hydrated by keeping your fluid intake high.
Since I started juice feasting, my concerned mother has brought up the importance of electrolytes. Electrolytes like potassium (one of the most important), calcium, magnesium, and protein, are found in most fruits and vegetables, like celery and citrus fruit. For more information about electrolytes click here and here.
My mother and husband, Peter, are keeping an eye on me. They are both in awe. Neither can image going a day without solid food (they are horrified at the thought). Regardless of their apprehensions, they sure are enjoying the extra juice concoctions I make for them; that’s a very good thing.
Here is a rundown of my delicious juice menu, from morning to evening, for the past two days:
Day 5
Morning – 1 lemon, water with MSM, 16 ounces
Mid Morning – 1/2 beet, kale, spinach, parsley, cucumber, celery, apple, 1 tablespoon spirulina powder, 24 ounces
Afternoon – carrot, 2 oranges, 8 ounces
Early Evening – 3 tomatoes, 3 stalks celery, 1 clove garlic, kale, spinach, parsley, 10 ounces
Evening – 2 apples, 1/4 raw cabbage – 8 ounces
Day 6
Morning: 3 celery stalks, 3 apples, 1/4 red cabbage, 1/2 cucumber, spinach, parsley, 24 ounces
Mid morning: 1 orange, juiced and mixed with water and MSM, 9 ounces
Afternoon: water, 16 ounces
Evening: Green Giant (a juice drink I bought at Erewhon) – carrot, spinach, parsley, celery and/or cucumber (can’t remember), and a shot of wheat grass, 20 ounces
Late Evening: water, 9 ounces
Today, I started the day with Spicy Lemon Lime Tonic and a half hour later drank about 9 ounces of water. Now I’m off to shop for fresh organic fruits and vegetable and then have some fun experimenting, so hold on to your glasses, I’ll report back with the juicy outcome.
Spicy Lemon Lime Tonic
A powerful pleasant drink with a subtle after-kick of cayenne. It is totally refreshing with bonuses – it is a great way to re-hydrate and replenish electrolytes, aid digestion and helps with the detoxification process.
1 small lemon, fresh squeezed
1 lime, fresh squeezed
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Blend all the ingredients in a blender or shake in a cocktail shaker.
Serves 1-2

Hey Kristen – me too ~ :-)
Ingrid! You’re a juicing inspiration! Love the spicy lemon lime tonic pic & recipe!
Thank you so much Penni, but talk about a juicing inspiration, you are a truly an inspiration having juice feasted for 92 days last year and all the wonderful work you are doing with the green smoothie initiative for school kids. :-)
Hey girl
just remember to get some salt, somewhere.. in you.
love deb
Hey Deb – my mother has really been on me about those electrolytes, so I’ll be on the precautionary side and make her happy and add to my veggie juices a pinch or two of Himalayan sea salt.
