Dandelion, Apple, Onion Garlic

Dandelions are one of my favorite springtime greens. They spring up in abundance in back yards and fields for us to enjoy. Many times I’ve foraged for dandelion in the back yard, and a few times in unspoiled open fields or dense mini forests, so I could add these greens to a salad. But the other day I used these nutritious greens in a new way, I juiced them.

Fresh Dandelion Juice Cocktail

Once in juice form the bitterness of dandelions wasn’t as potent as I thought it might be, it was actually light and subtle (at least that’s what my taste buds were telling me), and when combined with the sweetness of apples, and accented with the flavors of garlic, onion, and ginger, it made a very tasty drink.

Fresh Dandelion Juice Cocktail

1 bunch fresh dandelion leaves
4 apples
2 small cloves garlic
1-inch piece fresh ginger
1 small wedge onion

Rinse the dandelion greens and apples. Slice each apple in half and remove the stem and core with a , or with what you prefer. Remove the skin from the garlic cloves and onion; cut a one-inch piece of fresh ginger. Run the dandelion greens, apples, garlic, onions, and ginger through a juicer. Enjoy!

Makes about 20 ounces of juice

Today marks juice feasting day 11! Yesterday, day 10, was a good day, but I did notice my energy level shifted a bit. I felt a little bit tired during the afternoon, yet I wasn’t really tired (if that makes sense, it’s the best way I can describe the feeling). There must have been some level of detoxing going on.

I’m wondering if you are or have ever juice feasted or did a fast, if so how was it for you? As for those delicious and nutritious greens ~

Thanks for sharing your juicing recipes. Although I wasn’t as knowledgeable as I am now about juicing, I did do one several years ago. It was a 7 day cleanse that included organic juices (carrot, beet, celery and apple) along w/some herbs and minerals. On 6 of those days, I got a colonic. I was so determined to do it that I can’t recall any ill feelings. I’m sure my energy was low on a couple of day. (Sorry, it was about 6 yrs ago.) And yes, it may have been a bit extreme but I felt great afterwards and my skin was gorgeous! Would I do it again?.. Without the colonics, yes.
    Again, thanks for sharing!
    lol

Your welcome Cheris – thank you for sharing your story. My very first fast was no way near the other fasting experiences or this current juice feast. In comparison, it was a disaster! Like you, the first time around my knowledge of fasting then isn’t what it is now. I thought I was doing something great for my health and bought a fasting kit with a bunch of vitamins to take every day. I struggled during the entire fast, feeling lousy, weak, and lethargic probably because I was fasting and polluting my body with the synthetic vitamins in the kit! I cut the fast short and quickly recovered. LOL!!! Live and learn. Colonics are definitely a beneficial part of the detox program.

There’s nothing quite like backyard eating. Or front yard eating for that matter. Looks like your juice feasting is coming along pretty well!

Heather – yes thankfully it is! I attribute the ease of juice feasting to my diet and lifestyle. :-)

I’ve been seeing dandelions everywhere lately (blogs, stores, videos, etc) that I wonder if I’m being told something. :)

Heidi – it might be a subtle hint, nudge to eat more dandelions. ;-)
