Exotic Chocolate Milk

A recipe from Kristen Suzanne’s ULTIMATE Raw Vegan Chocolate Recipes by Kristen Suzanne of KristensRaw.com.

Today I share with you an exotic chocolate milk recipe that’s a cut above the ordinary. I love using floral essence in recipes and was delighted when Kristen, a lovely and talented raw food chef, choose to contribute this recipe from her ULTIMATE Raw Vegan Chocolate Recipes book.

Chocolate and orange is a great pair, but the taste experience is heightened with the subtle zing of ginger all blended in a healthy hemp seed milk base! It’s an interesting combination indeed [love that], and delicious.

My husband loved it, said it tastes like Christmas. Of course, you can enjoy the yummy flavor and fragrance of this exotic chocolate milk anytime.

Exotic Chocolate Milk

I’ve made this drink three times. The first batch, I substituted raw chocolate powder with raw carob powder. The second I followed the recipe using raw chocolate powder [cacao powder]. Both ways taste equally delicious.

The third time, I made an iced version, perfect on a sweltering summer day. Substitute 1 cup of water called for in this recipe with about 1 cup of crushed ice.

2 cups water
1 cup hemp seeds
1/4 cup raw chocolate powder
2 tablespoons raw agave nectar or date paste (or more)
1 1/2 teaspoons orange blossom water*
1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger (or more)
Pinch Himalayan crystal salt (optional)

Blend all of the ingredients until smooth and creamy.

Yield 3 cups

* Available at most Middle Eastern Markets, online, and at some Whole Foods Markets.

Note: Dayna’s Market and ethnicfoodsco.com, two suggested online sources for Orange Blossom Water.

An iced version of this sounds divine to me! I used to be an iced coffee fanatic.

LOVE that Peter thought it “tastes like Christmas.”
