The Carlotta
January 29, 2010
I’m sitting here indian style comfy on the couch with laptop on my lap, my cat curled up in a pillow of blanket next to me, and my mind is wondering back searching to remember the first time I tasted carrot juice. I’ve tried in vain but don’t recall exactly when I had my first taste of it. What I do remember is my aunt Jewel, who is no longer with us, and her talking about drinking carrots juice. She loved carrots, loved juicing them, and as I remember being told she juiced a lot.

Though my initial sip of carrot juice [whenever that was] evidently didn’t leave me with any grand impression, my fondness for the humble earthy root veggie exists. When I was a kid, my mother never had a problem getting me to eat my vegetables. I always eat my plate full and I loved eating my cooked to death carrots. I love carrots and I love my carrot juice.
In the past, when I didn’t own a juicers and didn’t bother to use the juicer my mother owned but loved to drink fresh made juice, I relied on Jamba Juice, Ewewhons, and Wild Oats were I would grab a juice to go. I still pick up a juice from time to time but these days I much prefer juicing at home.
Sometimes a glass of pure sweet carrot juice hits the spot, and other times a blend with other veggies or fruits is wonderfully good, like the combination of fresh ingredients that make this yummy drink, The Carlotta.

I like to buy all my produce organic. But sometimes we can’t always buy organic, or every item organic. This is when the Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides comes in handy. I have the app loaded on my iphone so I can refer to it if I need to.

1/3 cup apple juice [1 medium apple], cored, stem end removed
1 tablespoon fresh squeezed lemon juice
Garnish with parsley

Hi Christine – delicious!
*raises hand*
Me too, me too! Another lover of carrot juice here.
Here’s a combo I particularly fancy —
ABC Juice: Apple, Beet, Carrot
Earth Mother – I love that! ABC Juice: Apple, Beet, Carrot
I love juice, although have not had it in a few days. I was just thinking about having some this week. I have been loving cucumber, beets, and carrot, and sometimes throw in some fresh ginger.
Hi Gorgeous Twins: great combo and with ginger, yum!
I’ve done two fasts which were based on watered down carrot juice and psylium husks leading to rather unpleasant associations. I probably need to reclaim carrot juice. Yours looks rich and delicious.
Hi Antony: sorry to hear that. Was your fast supervised or was it DIY? Do reclaim carrot juice, and I hope you’ll try this drink. If so, let me know if you like it. Thanks for stopping by. :-)
My favorite is a combination of beet, carrot, apple and ginger. Beautiful color and awesome flavor. Oh, and last time I made this, I threw in a few kumquats fresh picked from a neighbor’s tree. That really sent it over the top. I made some for the family of my best friend. Her husband swears its the best juice he has ever had in his life (seeing as he’s closer to 60 now than 50, I’d say that’s pretty amazing).
Carrot-apple is my favorite juice combination for sure. I used to drink half a gallon or so everyday.
Look how pretty that is! And I love just about anything in my juice, esp golden beets and celery. :)
just wanted to let you know that MY name is Carlotta (obviously) and i was just curious as to how you came up with the name?? very interesting!!
