		<description>I used make my hubby [who does not like mushrooms] eat these to lower his cholesterol.  He abandoned it after we went full-fledged vegan, but until then it really was a great source.</description>

		<description>Thank you for the bay leaf tip Ingrid.  I hadn&#039;t heard that before, and I could easily do it since my Mom has a bay leaf shrub growing right next to her house (easy access to inexpensive bay leaves).  I have also thought of trying to grow them myself as sioux describes.  I&#039;ve read it&#039;s not that hard to do on a small scale, it just takes some time and patience.  As expensive as they are, it sure would be nice to have my own source at home.  Plus kind of fun, in a science project sort of way!</description>

		<description>You can also buy a &quot;shiitake&quot; log that will grow shiitakes in your own yard. After that, I imagine you can innoculate your own log. Definitely worth investigating. We&#039;re going to get one this spring, so I&#039;ll post all about the experience.</description>
