A garden without herbs is unimaginable. Practically unforgivable too. Funny thing though, marjoram was missing in our garden. That has been quickly resolved. We planted Greek oregano, the botanical relative very similar yet stronger in flavor than marjoram, but marjoram deserves and now has its place among the variety of herbs we have growing in our garden.
When I think of marjoram I think of summertime, the flavors of the Mediterranean, and the summer vegetables it enhances, like summer squash and zucchini. Tomatoes and marjoram are a tasty pair, and citrus and marjoram is a natural flavor affinity. Marjoram compliments other herbs, like basil, rosemary and thyme. It is an ingredient you might find in bouquet garni or fines herbs.
Besides adding flavor to our food marjoram can be used as an herbal medicine. Made into a tea, marjoram is said to act as a mild tonic to lessen fever. It could be used to help aid a headache, and it also acts as a mild stimulant to help with digestive.
